G025 Tower Works

Brief;

The report by Royal Haskoning detailed that the paint system on the G025 Tower at QinetiQ Range Control, South Uist. The report also detailed that the lower sections of each of the four legs were over stressed and required replacing with new stronger fully galvanised legs.

Skye Rope Access had a bracing leg fabricated, that when in place would act as a temporary leg, allowing for a leg of the mast to be removed individually. Once the new leg was fitted, the bracing leg was moved onto the next leg which was to be replaced. Skye Rope Access successfully fitted the 8 sections of the legs, successfully completing the work scope.

G043 Tower Strengthen Works

Brief;

The report by Royal Haskoning detailed that the G025 tower in Hirta, St Kilda was being overstressed and needed reinforcement. Sections of the legs were to be reinforced with additional steel, while whole horizontal sections of the tower had to be replaced with a new higher grade of steel.

Skye Rope Access designed a bracing system which allowed for the safe removal and replacement of the horizontal sections safely and efficiently. The Skye Rope Access team successfully designed, fabricated and fitted the reinforcement sections on site to a high standard, completing the work scope safely and efficiently.

FTS Fall arrest system replacement

Brief;

The existing fall arrest system on the FTS mast in Hirta, St Kilda was old, no longer usable and needed replacing. Skye Rope Access undertook the job of taking down the complete fall arrest system from the 87m mast. Skye Rope Access also advised on what would be the best system to fit in its place, going for the Uni-Line fall arrest system. This system was quickly and efficiently installed by the Skye Rope Access team, making the tower safe to climb again.

Knockan Crag

Brief;

Knockan Crag is a very important site of Geological significance and contains a permanent “rock room,” visitor centre to display the site. The motivation behind this contract was to protect visitors and the rock room it’s self from falling rock. The rock-fall catch fence designed by URS was installed onsite by Skye Rope Access to great success.
